Day 1 A first highlight awaits you right at the meeting point on the Bernina Pass. The highest station is not only the highest point of the four hiking days, but also the location of an oversized camera obscura. This camera obscura depicts the unique landscape and the fragile ecosystem in a very special way. The snapshot will put you in the mood for the coming days shortly after the welcome by the hiking guide, before you hike along the shore of Lago Bianco, on the route of the Via Valtellina, to Alp Grüm. Here, on this panoramic spot high above the Poschiavo Valley, you will spend a pleasant evening and a peaceful night. (Walking time: 2.10 h with breaks approx. 3 h, distance: 7.2 km, ascent/descent: 285/390 altitude meters).
Day 2 After a fortifying breakfast, the trail leads past the picturesque Lagh da l'Ombra to the next lower terrain terrace to Cavaglia. You will visit the Glacier Garden, which is famous for its typical alpine vegetation and rich flora, but also for the special glacier mills. The guide will tell you more about the vegetation and you will walk through the gorge path, newly created in 2021, and you will be able to admire the bizarre rock formations. Then you will reach Cadera through the sparse mountain forest and ride the Rhaetian Railway down the last meters to Poschiavo. Here the hotel "Vecchio Monastero" welcomes you, a quiet place in the middle of the village center. (Walking time: 2.30 h with breaks approx. 4 h, distance: 8.3 km, ascent/descent: 80/850 altitude meters).
Day 3 In the morning you will walk through the picturesque alleys of Borgo di Poschiavo and learn more about the cultural heritage, traditions and history of the valley on the tour. A little later you will learn more about the Pizzocheri. This culinary delicacy from Valposchiavo is made from buckwheat flour. Prepare your own lunch right away under guidance. Then take the train to Brusio and arrive by post bus to Viano, which sits on a terrace high above the main valley. With views of Lago di Poschiavo far below and the snowy peaks of the Bernina massif in the background, hike to San Romerio. The place for an overnight stay could hardly be more idyllic. The Bongulielmi family will give you a friendly welcome in the self-sufficient and therefore 100% sustainable mountain inn and prepare a delicious dinner for you, directly from the garden in front of the house. Enjoy the cozy evening and be impressed by the starry sky before you go to bed. (Walking time: 3 h with breaks approx. 5 h, distance: 6.5 km, ascent/descent: 600/100 altitude meters).
Day 4 Freshly invigorated by a typical Puschlav alpine breakfast, the trail leads you on the Via Valtellina back into the valley to Poschiavo. From the late Middle Ages until the end of the 18th century, the traditional mule route connected Upper Italy with the Lake Constance area. Particularly important was the trade of wine over the route. Back in Poschiavo, Kaspar Howald, the tourism director of the valley, will welcome you. He will give you exciting insights into the region and the 100% Valposchiavo project. Then it's time to say goodbye to this fascinating region. Compared to the muleteers in the past, you may now stretch your legs and take a comfortable train ride back to the north. (Walking time: 3.30 h with breaks approx. 5 h, distance: 10.7 km, ascent/descent: 350/1130 altitude meters)
