Day 1 Arrive in Chamonix. The place can easily be reached from Geneva within a ride of approx. 1 h. Enjoy the special flair of the world-renowned skiing and mountaineering resort.
Day 2 Leave the hustle and bustle and hike on the high trail from Planpraz to La Flégère and Argentière, of course with a view of the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc.
Day 3 From Argentière the trail leads through the Montagne des Posettes up to the first pass of the Walker's Haute Route, the Col de Balme. Enjoy once again the view back into the Chamonix valley before the descent, now back on Swiss ground, leads along the rushing Nate Noir river to Trient. - A small mountain village with a pink church!
Day 4 Step by step and with a bead or two of sweat on your brow, you climb towards the "Fenêtre d'Arpette". The view of the mighty, glaciated Plateau du Trient compensates for the effort. Then the route leads down and through the idyllic Val d'Arpette to Champex-Lac. Who knows, you might be tempted by a refreshing swim in the beautiful lake or simply the view of the mountains from the hotel terrace.
Day 5 From Champex-Lac you take a leisurely ride to Le Châble. The gondola up to Verbier lets you overcome the first meters of altitude comfortably. Then the path follows high above the Val de Bagnes with a view of the imposing Grand Combin to the Col de Termin. From here you can already see the destination, the idyllic Lac de Louvie and right next to it the cozy cabane.
Day 6 Today a lonely stretch is waiting for you. From the lovely Lac de Louvie you hike through the impressive stone desert of the Grand Désert surrounded by the glaciers of the Rossblanche and the Mont Fort. Over the two passes Col de Louvie and Col de Prafleuri you will reach in the evening the Cabane de Parfleuri, a cozy place at the back of the Val d'Hérémence.
Day 7 The Lac des Dix shines turquoise blue. The trail first leads along the shores of the lake, then passes through the moraine landscape and climbs to the impressive Col de Riedmatten, which is once again almost 3000 m high. With a view of the imposing north face of the Pigne d'Arolla you hike towards your final destination Arolla down in the valley.
Day 8 From La Forclaz, the trail zigzags upward, past the last alpine huts, becoming increasingly lonely and wild until it reaches Col du Tsaté at 2,867 m. The panorama is magnificent: Dent d'Hérens, Matterhorn, Dent Blanche, Zinalrothorn, and Weisshorn. The 4,000-meter peaks are within reach! Far below, Lac de Moiry shimmers turquoise-blue. The post bus waits there and takes you on a short ride to Grimenz.
Day 9 The train makes the first ascent from St-Luc to Tignousa easier. It's a wonderful panoramic trail with views of the Val d'Anniviers and the 4,000-meter peaks. Then the trail climbs over rugged terrain to the Meid Pass at almost 2,800 m. Passing the crystal-clear Lake Meid, the route leads down into the Turtmann Valley to Gruben.
Day 10 Like the muleteers of old, you climb through the sparse larch forest, then across alpine meadows until the trail finally leads through a bizarre landscape of rocks and scree to the Augstbord Pass at 2892 m. Now the view opens up onto the Mattertal valley and the descent through the wild Augstbord to the sunny terrace of Jungu follows. Treat yourself to a refreshing drink in one of the most beautiful mountain inns and enjoy the view of the Monte Rosa massif before the train gently takes you to St. Niklaus.
Day 11 The crowning glory comes at the end. From Täschalp and along the legendary Europaweg, the final stage leads to Zermatt. The view of the Matterhorn could hardly be better. Then follows a gentle descent to the mountaineering metropolis of Zermatt. Congratulations on completing the Walker's Haute Route!
