Day 1 The Vallée de Joux welcomes you with a cool breeze blowing across the lake of the same name. But first, we recommend a detour to Vallorbe to visit the Grotte de l'Orbe. Here, the water from Lac de Joux, which drains underground, flows back into the light of day through impressive limestone caves. From Le Pont, the Caprice sails across the lake to its northwestern shore, and a little later you reach Le Chenit in the valley, the center of Haute Horlogerie and home to such well-known watch brands as Audemars Piguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Blancpain, and many more.
Day 2 It is fascinating to look over the shoulders of the watchmakers as they assemble the tiniest gears, screws, and parts with the utmost concentration until, often after months of work, a watch is created. The Vallée de Joux is particularly well known for its grand complications and the very high art of watchmaking. Exciting insights await, from the past to the present, giving time a new dimension.
Day 3 Whether on foot or by e-bike, embark on a journey of discovery in the Grand Risoux, one of the largest forest areas in Europe, which stretches from the Valée de Joux across the wide mountain ridge and the border to France. The scattered forest huts are a reminder of the time when forest workers stayed “out” for several days and found shelter here. Today, the huts invite you to take a short break, ideally combined with a picnic consisting of local delicacies: a piece of Vachrin Mont d'Or or Gruyère cheese, dry sausage, bread, and a sip of white wine.
Day 4 Mont Tender translates as “gentle mountain,” and in contrast, its neighbor, the Dent de Vaulion, rises imposingly into the sky like a rocky tooth. Whether smooth or rugged, both mountains offer breathtaking views of the Alpine arc, from Lake Geneva to Lake Biel and far into the French Franche-Comté. The tinkling of cowbells accompanies you throughout the day, and here and there you will find a traditional buvette inviting you to take a break and enjoy local delicacies.
