Day 1 Welcome to the Engadine, surrounded by this unique mountain world, the vastness and the special light. After the welcome, you start "backwards" on the Via Engiadina towards Maloja. A first highlight awaits you in Plaz, namely the incredible view over the Upper Engadine lakes with the Bernina massif in the background. Hike with the sun towards the southwest, visit the Grevasalvas Majensäss, where the Heidi film was shot in 1978, and then reach Maloja. Here, the Engadine borders on Bergell, which forms the connection with Italy. Since time immemorial, the Maloja Pass has been an important trade route and the influence of Lombardy and the whole of Italy continues to influence the culture in the Engadine to this day. Now the boat is waiting and we take a leisurely ride back to the Nitzsche village in Sils.

Day 2 A leisurely start is followed by a fine breakfast on the bus to St. Moritz, a detour through the fashionable holiday resort if you feel like it and then on to Bever on the Rhaetian Railway. Now lace up your hiking boots and follow the Via Engiadina, which winds along the slopes on the sunny side of the valley, sometimes through sparse larch forests, over open mountain meadows and past rushing mountain streams. Then you reach Zouz. The village is considered one of the most beautiful, traditional and best-preserved Engadine villages. The walk through the narrow streets is a highlight in itself. Afterwards, relax in the hotel and enjoy a fine dinner, for example in the Patrician Stüva of the Crusch Alba or in the Dort Restaurant, a cosy converted barn with an excellent menu - "en Guete".

Day 3 The National Park is not directly on the Via Engiadina route. But it is definitely worth a detour. The park, which was founded in 1914 and is the oldest in the Alps, offers a rich flora and fauna and is also one of the five highlights along the way. The route leads into the Val Trupchun, the wildlife arena of the Alps. With a bit of luck, deer, ibex and chamois or even bearded vultures and golden eagles can be admired.

Day 4 Today you leave the Upper Engadine and reach Guarda, which already belongs to the Lower Engadine. Behind the melodious name is a small mountain village that sits high above the Inn on a sunny terrace, a first highlight of today. The village is known for its Romanesque culture and tradition, but above all for the Schellen-Ursli story, which was created by Selina Chönz and Alois Carigiet in this village. Today's stage first follows the rushing Clozza and leads in a curve to Alp Sura, an alpine pasture high above Guarda with views of the wild Lower Engadine Dolomites. From here the descent to Ardez follows and via Ftan you get to Scuol, the main and bathing resort in the Lower Engadine.o in other ways, from cheese to honey, nut cake to pear bread, a whole variety of fine products and matching souvenirs are created under the Bun Tschlin label! For now it's time to say goodbye. One last view over the mountain peaks on the horizon and down into the wide, fascinating Inn valley before you head back to Scuol and from there on your way home. (Walking time without rests: 3.30 h, distance: 11 km, ascent/descent: 550/540 meters).

Day 5 After a short ride on the postbus you reach the Hotel Val Sinestra, the former spa house with its mystical aura. Then it is time to tackle the last stage. The high trail leads to Vnà, a small hamlet at around 1600 metres above sea level. Rye used to be cultivated up to this altitude. The terraces of the fields can still be recognised today. Across a sparse forest and meadow landscape you finally reach Tschlin. Here, Bun Tschlin beer is brewed from Engadine barley and pure Tschlin spring water. What better way to quench your thirst after a day of hiking? But also in other ways, from cheese to honey, nut cake to pear bread, a whole variety of fine products and matching souvenirs are created under the Bun Tschlin label! For now it's time to say goodbye. One last view over the mountain peaks on the horizon and down into the wide, fascinating Inn valley before you head back to Scuol and from there on your way home.

  • Comfortable, broken-in, and waterproof hiking boots are essential for this tour. We recommend hiking boots with sturdy soles for good grip.
  • We also recommend hiking poles, which offer additional safety and support on steeper sections.
  • A comfortable hiking backpack is important for carrying water, snacks, weatherproof clothing, sun protection, and, if necessary, a camera and other personal belongings.
  • It is important to bring a refillable water bottle. This can be refilled repeatedly along the way.
