Snowshoe winter trekking Bivio

Winter landscapes between Alp Flix and Septimer Pass in the Surses Mountains of Graubünden

save bookmark

Hike through glistening powder snow on snowshoes, feel the quiet power of the winter landscape, and explore hidden paths. Where muleteers and Romans once crossed the Alps, three languages and cultures meet today, yet the place remains quiet and far from mass tourism. After the tour, relax in the sauna, steam bath, or with some "dolce far niente," and enjoy a delicious dinner together in the evening.

Day 1 The charming mountain village Bivio at the foot of the Julier Pass can be easily reached by train via Chur to Tiefencastel and then by post bus through the Surses. Here, where three languages and cultures meet, your winter adventure begins. In the afternoon, you will lace up your snowshoes for your first short tour. This will allow you to get used to walking in the snow and practice using safety and avalanche equipment. This will ensure you are well prepared for the days ahead.

Day 2 A short ride on the post bus takes you to Sur Sour. From here, you climb through snow-covered forests to the high plateau of Alp Flix, a protected natural gem with moorland, open snowfields, and sweeping views of the mountains. You hike leisurely past the small hamlets of Cuorts and above Tgalucas to Tga d'Meir. Cross the Plang Grond clearing to return to Sur Sur and take the post bus to Bivio.

Day 3 Today you start right at the hotel and climb via Fumia and Cadval to the wide plain of Plano Camfer. Surrounded by impressive peaks, the landscape opens up as you approach the historic Septimer Pass, which was already crossed by the Romans and muleteers. A final ascent takes you to a viewpoint overlooking the Bregaglia Valley. On the way back, you return to Bivio, where comfort, relaxation, and hospitality await you.

Day 4 A summit experience crowns your days in Bivio: from here, you hike into the quiet Val Beiva, one of the unspoiled valleys surrounding the village. Step by step, you climb higher until you reach the plateau and set off for Crap da Radons. At the top, a wide panorama opens up over Surses, the Julier Pass, and the surrounding peaks. A wonderful place to rest, marvel and enjoy before descending via Sur Ragn to the post bus stop and back to the hotel.

Day 5 In the morning, you will take an easy farewell tour in Bivio before departing with many winter memories in your luggage.
