The Via Alpina is the most famous long-distance hiking trail in Switzerland. From east to west, the number 1 hiking route connects the most beautiful hiking highlights across the country. 400 km from the starting line in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, to Lake Geneva in Montreux, 15 stages and 14 Alpine passes! The trail connects world-famous vacation resorts with remote, unspoilt mountain valleys, offers breathtaking views of the impressive and ever-changing mountain world, and day after day tells exciting stories about people and life, about the past and present of here and there, to the left and right of the wayside. The Via Alpina, that is experiencing Switzerland, up close!

The Via Alpina Best of Trekking (the light way) connects Engelberg with Grindelwald, Adelboden with Gstaad and ends with the crossing of the Via Alpina finish line in Montreux. In six days you hike from highlight to highlight. And as "the light way" says, the route is easy going. The meters of ascent and descent are moderate as well as the walking times.

Overnight stay in Interlaken. (Walking time: 4 h, distance: 11 km, ascent/descent: 475/820 meters).

Day 4 From Lake Thun by train and bus to Adelboden. Then a gentle ascent along the Gilsbach stream, through fairytale forests and impressive moorland to the Hahnenmoospass.
